Hoi An

Hoi An – you are BEAUTIFUL! Arrived super early in the morning from the night bus debating which Hostel to stay at, the one we had originally booked (Vietnam Backpackers Hoi An) or the new one that had been recommended to us from people who were going south to go to the sunflower Hotel, which has more of a party party drink vibe to it. A few people we had met from Nha Trang and that were on our bus were staying there too so we would know a couple people there! With having my anxiety going through the roof at this point, I felt better going to stay at the original Hostel we had booked and I am SO glad we did – it’s honestly as clean as our luscious hotel that we had stayed in whilst in Ho Chi Minh City! Super laid back atmosphere, lots of young people and lots of food and drink, including lots of food choices for me to eat! Yay! πŸ˜‹

We kicked off our BEAUTIFUL Hoi An experience by obviously getting some clothes made for us, it was a fab experience! We parked up and a lovey Vietnamese lady had seen us clearly looking confused as all hell so asked where we were going, what we wanted to do & answered our questions about where to get money out and where to eat! She led us into her shop for us to get ourselves measured for clothes, chose designs and materials – fabbo service & it was going to be ready by the next day! We wandered around the ancient town which was beautiful, surrounded by lots of clothes, souvenirs and food markets! Brought a few presents & presents to me from me πŸ˜‡πŸ˜‚

Spent the afternoon chillin and killin’ at the hostel pool with a couple of drinks at happy hour! We met this lovely Dutch girl, Rosine, we spent the afternoon chatting and then booked onto the Italian themed buffet – couldn’t say no. I properly fancied some more western food! We joined a table with two friends from the USA, Miles and Jesi so us 5 are our body weight in buffet food yuuummmmmaaaaaa!!! It was also quiz night at the hostel so we met a few other people joining our team! I still have no idea where we came in the leader board but we got quite a few right! Had a total guess of “How many women has James Bond slept with over every JB movie?” – we all thought different & I went for the middle option of 52 & weirdly we got it spot on!! πŸ˜±πŸ˜‚

The next morning, we had booked onto do the bamboo boat tour along the river! Miles & Jesi that we had met from the night before decided to join us too, so off we went on our lil bikes, embracing the Vietnamese culture alongside trying not to scream at the terrifying roads!! I wish I had put my Go Pro on whilst we were cycling to show how crazy the roads were!!! It was an absolute scorcher of a day too – so obviously we wore the traditional Bamboo hats & took a selfie! The boat man/driver/steerer took us down the river and made us both a ring out of the reed plants that grew in/on the edge of the river, and because I’m fabulous (πŸ’πŸΌπŸ’πŸΌπŸ’πŸΌ) he made me a medal/necklace thing which was super cute! Around the river bend it was time for crabbing and snailing!! I caught 2, will caught big fat ZERO & our guide caught the last one & lots of snails. I still don’t get how he could spot them so easily! They almost blended into the reeds completely!! πŸ¦€πŸŒ

Will hasn’t been feeling well for the last day or so, so off to bed he went to recuperate & I headed off into the Ancient Town market again to collect most of the clothes we had ordered and a bit more shopping. Will woke up around 5-6ish feeling slightly better so we went for dinner in the hostel as we knew the food wouldn’t be too harsh on his stomach, he still didn’t manage much and went back to bed the poorly bubz!Β This evening the hostel had on a charity fundraiser for the Swim Vietnam charity which teaches children and adults how to swim to avoid death by drowning – 30 children die from drowning everyday in Vietnam just because they don’t have the ability to learn to swim here! It’s so sad that such a simple thing we take for granted can take so many lives daily! But amazingly, the hostel had raised 25 million dong (roughly Β£840) which for a bunch of poor backpackers and travellers is pretty good! It’ll do a lot of help for the communities 😊 One part of the fundraiser was that there was tattoo-ing and piercing going on!

Since will had gone to bed, Miles & Jesi asked me to go out with them for the evening on the after bar hours bar/pub crawl to Tiger Tiger & Tiger 2! Since it was their last night in Hoi An, I joined along with them! We met Aimee & Nic too, so us three played a game of Giant Jenga in the hostel before we left and gathered a crowd of people watching as the tower, I kid you not, was nearly 2-3m off of the floor!! 😱 it got to the point where we couldn’t move any more without the whole thin tumbling down, so one of the spectators wanted to jump through it – didn’t look fun or painless πŸ˜‚ It turned out to be a lot of fun, weird experience partying in a different country but fun fun fun nonetheless less!!

Hangover dodged – yaaaaaaaahs!! But it still called for a beach day at An Bang Beach which was only looooovely 15 minute bicycle ride from our hostel, so off we went in a big ol group day out to the beach! We went with Miles, Jesi, Joe, Aimee & Nic – cracking bunch of chums! We chilled by our beach beds and in the sea and chatted the day away! Jesi’s was telling Aimee & I that her father was deployed over to Vietnam when the war was going on, it’s so crazy to think that it wasn’t so long ago!!

As it was Jesi and Miles’ last evening, us four went out for dinner to the local-eat restaurant (100m away from our hostelπŸ™„πŸ˜‚) and had a lovely dinner, along with the cutest (& naughtiest) little puppy EVER!! Kept nipping at our ankles and took a joke particularly to Miles’ ankles πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ so we said our goodbyes and went for an early night after a quick round of giant Jenga!

RAINY DAY GAMES!! We played cards all of the morningy/afternoon with Nic & Aimee, since it’s pouring we decided to check out a day early and head to Da Nang a day too! I think 2 hours of our card game happened, took a while to do “the best out of 5” πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ luckily Da Nang is quite close to Hoi An, so a short taxi journey and we’ll be there soon enough!!

So long Hoi An, you’ve been beyond fabulous πŸ–πŸš΄πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ›΅
